6th New Business Models Conference | June 2021

Organizations have an impact on sustainability – Do you have a paper (idea) with impact? Submit to our NBM Conference track “Exploring Organizational Impact” – Until 14th February 2021!

Whether or not organizations employ truly sustainable business models depends on how they are designed and implemented as well as the environmental and social impacts they have.

Yet, while the impact organizations around the world have is tremendous, actionable knowledge about how to assess, manage, and design organizational impact is limited.

At this year’s (online) International Conference on New Business Models we invite you to our track on “Exploring Organizational Impact”.

We will shed light on (1) ways to assess and manage the sustainability performance of business models, and (2) how business model patterns serve as design tools for sustainable business models.

Track information and call for papers: https://www.newbusinessmodels.org/exploring-organizational-impact

This track is related to a special issue in Journal of Cleaner Production: https://www.journals.elsevier.com/journal-of-cleaner-production/call-for-papers/forecasting-the-sustainability-impact-of-new-ventures

‘Glocalization’ in a post-COVID-19 world

The COVID-19 crisis has shown in manifold ways how vulnerable our economy and society are. Globalization, for instance, has resulted in a very few global supply chain hubs, which control most of the global movements of goods and materials. Relying only on such a few global supply chain hubs creates significant bottlenecks in the event of a global supply chain shock and risks substantial disruptions to the global value chain network with potentially catastrophic consequences for the world economy.

My colleagues Arijit Paul, PhD, and Prof. Rupert Baumgartner and I, we delineated some ideas of how Glocalization opposed to Globalization could offer potential future solutions to these existing challenges in a blog post published by ONE division/Academy of Management. This blog post can be accessed here: Link

Furthermore, you can listen to a 15 minute podcast episode in which Arijit and I explain the basic logic of Glocalization: "Hör-Saal: 15 Minuten Forschung #15: Was kann Glokalisierung"

Experten-Wordrap Kapitel ‚Sustainability‘

It was great fun and a challenge to answer some questions related to Sustainability & Business only in a few words, called a wordrap. This was different from usual where researches tend to give looong answers, at least this is what rumors say... :)

Thanks Georg Nistl for the invitation!
You can find the wordrap (in German only) here: https://blog.next-incubator.com/sustainability-nachhaltigkeit/

4_th International Conference on New Business Models

New Business Models for Sustainable Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Transformation

This annual International Conference on New Business Models grew out of seminars that took place at the Toulouse Business School (Toulouse) in France during 2013 and 2015. There the idea was born to organize an annual small-scale conference enabling discussions on the latest developments around business modeling and, more particularly, on how these models contribute to societal-economic trends such as sustainability, the circular economy, social entrepreneurship, and community-based business models.

Together with Jan Jonker, Nikolay Dentchev, Niels Faber and Florian Lüdeke-Freund I'm amongst the founding members of this conference series  and had the pleasure to act as conference chair for the 2nd International Conference on New Business Models that took place in Graz, Austria, in June 2016.

Link: https://new-business-models.uni-graz.at/en/

In 2019, the 4th International Conference on New Business Models is hosted and supported by the Chair for Corporate Sustainability, ESCP Europe Berlin. It is devoted to bringing together both theoretical and practical insights from the fields of sustainable entrepreneurship, innovation, and transition, on the one hand side, and business models for sustainability, on the other hand side.

The Call for Abstracts and Papers (submission deadline: before February 1, 2019) can be found online and retrieved from: https://www.nbmconference.eu/

Looking forward to see you in Berlin in June 2019,

Romana
